2019-2020 Top 20 JSD Accomplishments
- JSD is officially a 90-90-90 district with over 90% diversity, 90%+ students on free meals, and 90%+ performance on the Missouri Annual Performance Report
- For the first time since 1993, thanks to Enterprise Holding Foundation for $300,000, JSD purchased a school bus and six vehicles
- In August, we helped lead the STL.Works initiative and JSD was the only school district present at the St. Louis American Center among the over 600 business leaders.
- In August, JSD sent over 1,000 families to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series races. Jennings Junior High Schools were among the first in the STEM Program At World Wide Technology Raceway, to train on racing karts
- In September, JSD had its largest assembly ever for the Strong Youth Strong Communities Program sponsor by Centene for a message of encouragement, hope, and safety from NFL Gold Jackets like Tony Dungy, Isaac Bruce, Aeneas Williams
- In October, JSD was the first in Missouri to have the St. Louis Blues President and Stanley Cup visit multiple schools
- In November, JSD was the first to have the DESE State Board, legislatures, and the Commissioner of Education tour its district to learn about impactful education innovations
- In November, JSD received the 2019-20 Education Innovator of the Year from the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry
- In December, JSD was the first in the United States for the WE Charity and Walgreens to award $25000 and WE Representatives awarded teachers with gift cards for their dedication
- JSD is the first district in Missouri to operate not one but two food hubs for daily groceries for families. Thanks to a $90,000 grant from Bayer and the support of St. Louis Area Food Bank, the Fairview Food Hub, and the J Town Market in December of 2019
- JSD created the first workforce development pre-cadet academy program in partnership with the St. Louis County Police Development called Career and Pathways in Law Enforcement (CAPLE) for students of the entire St. Louis region, plus stop the bleed training, gun safety, plus
- JSD implemented research with internationally renowned institutions for trauma-informed practices, parent-child interaction therapy, the impact of chess in schools, and more
- JSD launched the JSD Virtual Academy & Distance Learning in under a week
- JSD gave over 40,000 breakfast and lunch meals since the pandemic
- JSD gave 1,000,000 pounds of groceries. Thank you, Mr. Hite, Mrs. Crossland, and everyone who served food
- JSD gave 1200 Chromebooks to students/parents and support for access to free AT&T, T-Mobile, and Spectrum Broadband
- The district led teleconferences for"Wellbeing Sessions" with staff, students, and family
- Tremendous national, state, and local leaders during the pandemic. Thank you, essential workers
- Some amazing JSD Warriors staff and colleagues finished their course and are retiring as Warriors Forever: Dr. Mary Hardy, Cathy Crosier, Lance Hash, Theresa Humble, Fayetta Matthews, Alice Weaver, Brian Weaver, Ceylon Ward. Job well done
- JSD had some of its strongest set of students yet. So many of our students were amazing. JSD celebrated its first student, 2020 class JSH Valedictorian, Malik Sediqzad, earning a perfect score on the ACT math section and attending Harvard University, three years after JSD’s first Ivy League College tour to Harvard & MIT in 2017 thanks to Express Scripts funding. JSH’s salutatorian, Dakota Warren, is a brilliant scholar with more than a year of college credits, above 4.2+ GPA, and a full ride to UMSL.
