Nevil’s story became widely known when in 1966 he played on the basketball team of Texas Western College, now known as the University of El Paso. Due to the racial climate of the country at that time, it was no small stir when, five black starters from Texas Western ended up playing in the NCAA championship against Kentucky. Texas Western won the championship and became a national phenomenon… breaking the color line in collegiate sports. This story has come down through history and Disney motion pictures produced a movie about it called Glory Road.
Nevil will be the featured guest at a Black History Celebration Event called “Celebrating the Shadow” on Saturday, February 11 at 3 PM. The location is on the attached flyer.
